Mastering, Mixing and Recording Engineer Ron Skinner has been working in the music industry for over thirty years and has worked on hundreds of projects from a wide range of genres. He will bring all of this knowledge and experience to your project and will strive to bring out the very best in your music.

About Ron Skinner
Growing up a stone’s throw from one of the world’s great music cities, Detroit, had a major impact on his musical sensibilities. By the time he was in high school, Skinner had committed himself to the art of audio and became a cornerstone in his local music scene. He later attended Music Industry Arts at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario where he studied under legendary music producer Jack Richardson.

In 1992, Skinner joined the staff at CBC Radio in Toronto and began a thirty-year career recording some of the biggest names in music. Over his career as a Music Producer / Recording Engineer he has been responsible for thousands of recording projects for an endless list of both Canadian and International artists.

A short list of some of the highlights include: The Cure, Radiohead, The Sam Roberts Band, The Pretenders, Mavis Staples, Feist, Mychael Danna, Mark Knopfler & Emmylou Harris, Bahamas, Daniel Lanois, Half Moon Run, Blue Rodeo, k.d. lang, Pee Wee Ellis and Maceo Parker, Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings, BADBADNOTGOOD, Allison Russell.

Building on his experience as a recording engineer and producer, Skinner opened Heading North Mastering in 2000, changing the name to Mastering By Ron Skinner in 2020.

Ron Skinner has mastered hundreds of projects for a wide range of musical styles and genres and will bring all of this knowledge and experience to your project.

Analog Mastering Channels

Other highlights of the mastering suite are the two unique analog mastering channels. The Solid State Channel features an Avalon 2055 Mastering EQ and 2044 Stereo Compressor. The Tube Channel features A-Designs Hammer 2 Tube Equalizer and Nail Tube Compressor. Both channels allow for tailor-made tone sculpting.

Digital Tools

All this analog gear is also complimented by powerful digital tools including IZotope’s Ozone Mastering Suite and RX Sound Restoration as well as a wide assortment of other digital tools from brands like Leapwing Audio and Sound Theory.
Atmosphere
Mastering By Ron Skinner in many ways reflects the changing music industry. It is a home-based mastering suite and this “work at home” ethos has provided a relaxed and cost-effective environment for music mastering. Skinner has developed a strong reputation as a calm and caring engineer with a great ear and fine attention to detail. He would love to master your next project.

Atmosphere

The studio is located on Lake Erie in the historic fishing village of Port Stanley. Located 20 miles South of London, Ontario this quiet picturesque village provides an ideal environment for mastering your next song or album.

While the studio is located in a rural setting, it still features some of the best mastering tools available today.
